President’s Message

Dear Colleagues,

As the “healthcare” conflict continues in our country
we must maintain our vigilance. We know that some
of the proposals – unlimited abortion paid for by our
tax dollars, embryonic stem cell research, “end of
life” counseling for those who are challenged by age,
illness, or disability, the “public option,” and the lack
of a conscience clause for healthcare workers – are not
in the best interests of our patients, our country, or the
practice of our Faith. Please continue to write letters
and articles and pray without ceasing.

It has been one year since we began the restructuring of NACN-USA. Our
membership, though not large, consists of wonderful, accomplished Catholic
Nurses. We are happy that Dr. Cheryl Hettman of Pennsylvania has accepted
the position of President-elect. Much work has been done to create our new
membership brochure, our website – www.nacn-usa.org, and our quarterly
newsletters. Interested members are forming Councils of Catholic Nurses
in California, Colorado, Texas, Georgia and Pennsylvania. We already have
Councils in FL, TN, MI, IL, and MA.

As a group we seek to grow in our Faith, be “another Christ” in caring for our
patients, and support each other and our Catholic values in the ever changing
field of health care.

You can each make a contribution. Each one of you can invite a nurse to join
NACN-USA. Also you will find an election ballot enclosed. Please vote
and mail it in the enclosed envelope. We look forward to your comments,
suggestions and articles for the Newsletter.
